Five Weeks and Counting

In just a little over five weeks, I will boarding a plane and leaving my family behind for three months. Yes I am excited, but sometimes I stop and question how I'm going to manage three months without my family. However, that thought quickly passes as I am so busy with work, booking tickets, fundraising, and researching about my upcoming months.
While booking my flights, I've begun to realize how long my journey is really going to be.  It will include 23 hours of flying, not counting layovers or time driving to and from airports. This puts into persecutive how far away I'm travelling - and on my own,  for that matter! When I talk to others and hear about their experiences, I know that even if had to travel twice as far that it would still be worth it.
For a long time, it felt that my trip was a long way in the future. But here I am, five-and-a-half weeks to go and it still hasn't set in that I'm leaving soon. Soon my bags will be packed, and I'll be hugging my family good-bye.
